It is Russia and China That Find Themselves Isolated at G20 Says US

Washington, DC – At the recent G20 Finance Ministers meeting, the group was unable to issue a joint communique because Russia and China were opposed to the use of the word ‘war,’ but the US says that both those countries find themselves isolated in the group.

In response to a question from Global Strat View on Russia and China politicizing the G-20, State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said that despite the G20 not being a security forum, security has implications for all of these issues that the G20 countries care about. “I think what we saw coming out of the G20 finance ministers’ meeting last weekend was a very clear manifestation that the G20 is determined to make progress, to address and confront these common challenges, and to the extent there are divides within the G20, it is Russia, it is China that find themselves isolated. You saw that very clearly reflected in the statement that emanated from India last week, but we’ll have to see what comes out of deliberations this week.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is in New Delhi for the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting, said he has no plans to meet one-on-one with his Chinese or Russian counterparts at the G20, although they will all be in group sessions at the forum.

On March 3rd, the Secretary will also participate in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Quad (United States, India, Japan, and Australia).
