Washington Update: A Forum on Ethiopia’s Future

Urgent Call to All Ethiopians

On behalf of the Coalition of Ethiopian-American Civic Organizations, we urgently invite all Ethiopians to attend the Ethiopian Constitutional Conference and Forum on Human Rights Abuses and Attacks on Religious Freedom in Ethiopia, to be held on:

Wednesday, October 1st

9:30 a.m.

U.S. House of Representatives, Rayburn Building, Conference Room 2168

This is a historic opportunity to give voice to the voiceless Ethiopians back home and stand together against the ongoing atrocities, particularly the systematic human rights abuses targeting the Amhara people and attacks on religious freedom.

Invited Speakers Include:

  • U.S. Senators and Members of Congress
  • U.S. State Department Officials
  • International Religious Freedom Representatives
  • African Union Delegates
  • Community Leaders and Human Rights Advocates

Meeting Objectives

  1. Discuss the critical role of the United States in supporting peace, democracy, and constitutional reform in Ethiopia.
  2. Promote a three-pronged strategy:
    • Cessation of Hostilities
    • Targeted Sanctions on perpetrators of human rights abuses
    • Support for Inclusive Constitutional Reform

We Call on the International Community to Act:

  • Launch independent investigations into atrocities.
  • Hold perpetrators accountable for crimes against humanity.
  • Take urgent, concrete steps to prevent further violence and protect civilians.

The world must not look away. The people of Amhara — and all Ethiopians — deserve to live in peace, dignity, and freedom.

The Human Rights Crisis in Ethiopia

The latest U.S. State Department report documents grave violations, including:

  • Arbitrary killings and disappearances
  • Torture and degrading treatment
  • Arbitrary arrest and detention without due process
  • Attacks on journalists and censorship
  • Serious abuses during conflict

We must send a clear message: The United States and the international community will not tolerate torture, mass atrocities, or the silencing of people’s voices.

The Dire Situation on the Ground

The crisis in Ethiopia is worsening. While the regime in Addis Ababa spreads propaganda, the truth is undeniable:

  • Human rights abuses are escalating.
  • The economy is collapsing, with the birr now at 170 to 1 U.S. dollar.
  • Across the country, people are pleading for peace in all regions.

Make Your Voice Heard

We must do everything possible to support our people and our homeland. Your presence matters.

Join us on October 1st and stand in solidarity with Ethiopians fighting for peace, justice, and freedom.
