Media Advisory: Ethiopian Constitutional Conference and Forum on Human Rights Abuses and Religious Freedom

On behalf of the Coalition of Ethiopian-American Civic Organizations, we invite members of the press to cover the Ethiopian Constitutional Conference and Forum on Human Rights Abuses and Attacks on Religious Freedom in Ethiopia, taking place:

Date: Wednesday, October 1
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Location: U.S. House of Representatives, Rayburn Building, Conference Room 2168

This historic conference will bring together scholars, policymakers, and human rights advocates to examine the urgent need for constitutional reform in Ethiopia. Without immediate action, Ethiopia risks further instability that could destabilize the entire Horn of Africa.

The forum will also spotlight ongoing human rights abuses, including systematic attacks on the Amhara people and increasing assaults on religious freedom. Speakers will call for accountability, justice, and the immediate release of political prisoners—among them Tadios Tantu, Christian Tadele, Yohannes Buayalew, and detained journalists.

The Coalition urges the United States government and the international community to recognize the gravity of the crisis and take meaningful steps to halt atrocities before they escalate further.
